LuzViMinda Lodge No. 317 is the first Masonic Lodge under the jurisdiction of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Washington that was organized by Filipinos, Filipino-Americans and Americans . “Luzviminda” is a proper noun and a common first name for Filipino females. It is an acronym for the three main islands of the Philippine Republic: Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Used for the purpose of naming this lodge, it is the geography and not the person that is being memorialized. Map of the Philippines. LuzViMinda Lodge is not a Filipino lodge! It is appropriate, though, to refer to the lodge as a "Filipino American lodge” (unhyphenated). It was organized and initiated mainly by Americans of Filipino descent. One founding member, is an all-American Seattlelite and speaks not a word of any Filipino dialect, as is one of the first three initiates of LuzViMinda Lodge. Ethnicity Profile. No one is refused membership into this lodge based on ethnicity. There are restrictions, but no exclusivity concept. Any petitioner who meets the membership criteria and the standards set by the Grand Lodge, or any Master Mason of a recognized jurisdiction (those allowing plural membership) are welcomed to petition for the degrees or for plural membership, respectively. Needless to say, as our ancient custom dictates, all petitioners must received a tongue of good report from the membership. (Complete History). |
