“Luzviminda” is a proper noun and a common first name for Filipino females. It is the acronym for the three major islands of the Philippine Republic: Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Used for the purpose of naming this lodge, it is the geography and not the nation nor person that is being memorialized. Map of the Philippines.

LuzViMinda No. 317 is NOT a Filipino lodge!  It is appropriate, though, to refer to it as a “Filipino American lodge” (unhyphenated).  It was organized and initiated mainly by Washington Masons of Filipino descent.  One founding member, is an all-American Seattle native and speaks not a word of any Filipino dialect, as is one of the first three initiates.  Of the 92 members (as of 8-02-10), there are only 57 Filipinos/Filipino-Americans, 2 Filipino-Canadians and 33 non-Filipino members (whose ethnicity are as follows: 29 Caucasians, 2 Native-Americans, 1 African-American and 1 Japanese-American.

Needless to say, LuzViMinda is not a single ethnic aggrupation of men, but rather a regularly constituted and charted Masonic lodge under the Washington Masonic jurisdiction (Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of Washington).  Ethnicity Profile.
